FAQs

Want to find out more?

Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions. But if they don't cover what you want to know, please get in touch.

Can I buy a package for someone else?

Absolutely. So many people have said they wish they had been able to have something like Tale To Tell when their parents were still alive. Lots of people want to keep a record of their parents or grandparents. You can purchase a package-specific voucher for a family member to be used at a time of their choice.

How did Tale To Tell come about?

Tale To Tell was set up by Grainne Landowski, a former presenter and producer with nearly two decades experience in commercial radio.

I started off as everyone does, making the tea and then producing news packages. But as my career progressed I met and interviewed countless famous people along the way including Beyonce, Take That, The Spice Girls, Vivienne Westwood, Peter Kay and countless others.

What working in radio has taught me is that, famous or not, everybody has a tale to tell, and we all deserve to have our voices listened to.

What happens after I contact you?

We'll get back in contact, discuss your needs and arrange a good time for the pre-recording consultation. Once the pre-recording consultation has taken place we'll agree a time and place for the actual recording. You'll receive your Tale To Tell no later than four weeks afterwards.

What happens in the pre recording consultation?

Well, it's really just a conversation where we find out a little bit about you and discuss what you do and don't want to put in your recording. We'll also discuss the logistics of how, where and when we'll record, and answer any questions you may have.

Where will the recording take place?

We use professional microphones and recording equipment which make it easy to record in a customer's own home. We only ask that you give us two hours of your time uninterrupted by the dog, or friends popping by. But if that's not appropriate, we can arrange a more suitable place for you to record. Just contact us to discuss.

What do you do with my details, and where do you store my recording?

Once we've edited the recording and sent it out to you we'll keep it on a server for six months in case you want to make some edits. After that we'll delete it. Like every UK based company we are subject to GDPR law, so we keep your details on record for a reasonable period of time. We'll only use them for reasons based on the product and we'll never share your details with anyone else. For more details, check out our Privacy Policy.

How do I arrange payment?

Once we've agreed a time and place for the recording, then we send an invoice for the full amount. Following payment you'll receive a receipt, and confirmation of the recording arrangements.

Can more than one person at a time be interviewed?

Couples, parents and children, siblings, lifelong best friends....

Does the interview have to be about my life story?

Tale To Tell is aimed at people telling their life story. But it's absolutely up to you what you talk about. Just contact us and we can discuss a bespoke package for you.

What if I want to delete something from the edited recording?

That's not a problem. If you decide you want to make some small amendments to your edited recording once you've listened to it, then just let us know.

Can I add music to my package?

For copyright reasons, unfortunately not. However, if you own the copyright to a piece of music, for example it's your own composition, then of course yes.

I don't like the sound of my own voice on a recording.

Not many people do! But to be honest, you don't have to sound like Richard Burton or Moira Stewart to make a great recording. By the way, you don't have to be an amazing storyteller either. Tale to Tell is about you, your life and your voice. So, tell it.
