My mum’s had such an interesting life and we thought it would be a lovely thing to do, to put all her stories on record. It’s also a way of remembering my dad, because so much of what mum spoke about was about their life together. So to have that and to be able to listen to it whenever we want is lovely. Mum’s never spoken into a microphone before or done anything remotely like this, but when we got the question prompts it just brought back so many memories for her.

To be honest I thought I knew everything about my mum but there were things she spoke about on the recording that I’d never heard before!

The whole process was very relaxed, and we loved the photo box and the presentation!

Even though he’s only in his early seventies my dad has not been very well, and unfortunately it’s becoming harder and harder for him to talk. I wanted to be able to remember what my dad is really like, rather than just have memories of his illness. Tale To Tell helped me do that. Even though Dad’s body has let him down, his mind is still active and his personality comes across brilliantly in the recording. I’m so glad we did it.

I grew up in Ireland in the forties and fifties, and life was so different then. My grandchildren don’t believe me when I tell them about having to walk through the fields to get to school or having to bring the water in from the well every evening. My daughter suggested that I do a Tale To Tell so that we’d always have a record of my life, and my grandchildren would know where they came from.

Hopefully, when they listen to it they'll realise that their nanna wasn't always an old lady!
